Creek Valley Competes in Weather-Shortened Sutherland Invite

Creek Valley’s Storm Track and Field team travelled to Sutherland High School on Thursday to compete in the Sutherland Booster Club Track Invitational, but were unable to compete in the running events as a quick-moving weather system moved into the area, dropping temperatures into the 20’s with wind and snow.

Sutherland High School Principal and Activities Director Dustin Mitchell made the call to cancel the events based upon weather forecasts that predicted even more precipitation throughout the day.

Coaches from the participating teams were starting to scratch their runners for the events to avoid injury, prompting Mitchell to cancel all of the running events.

Creek Valley did participate in the events that were held prior to the weather forced cancellation. Although the Storm did not win any events outright, the team did have individuals place in the top six in a number of events.

For the boys, in the pole vault senior Pierce Leef placed fifth while sophomore Noah Knapp placed sixth. In the high jump, junior Sam Grabowski placed sixth.

For the girls, senior Payje Misegadis placed sixth in the long jump.

Creek Valley’s Tri-State Invitational on Tuesday April 3 at Creek Valley High School was cancelled due to weather.
