School Opens Doors to STEAM Activities

The parking spaces were full along the streets surrounding the school. Adults and children entered the school well after normal class time.

It was an opportunity for parents and students to experience lessons in a fun environment.

Tuesday night was STEAM Night at Central Elementary School. STEAM is an educational emphasis of Science, Technology, Engineering and Arts, and Mathematics. The emphasis started with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, encouraging students to explore specific disciplines in education. Arts has since been added.

Central's program started at 5:30 p.m. with eight different programs in different classrooms, the library and gymnasium. Activities included a photo booth, chemical reactions (science), robots (technology), Build a Structure (engineering), Make a Snow Scene (art), Playing War (math), Dominoes (math and engineering) and Cup Stacking.

The event provided a time for parents to interact with their children during STEAM activities, and for parents to see what their child's lessons involved.
