Steele, Hutchinson to attend Cornhusker Boys' State

Michael Steele and Josh Hutchinson, students at Potter-Dix High School, will be attending Cornhusker Boys' State in June.

Michael Steele, son of Daryl and Kerry Steele of Dix, has been very involved at Potter-Dix High School. He lettered in football, basketball, track, choir, band, speech and one acts. He has also participated in quiz bowl, algebra 11 scholastic contest ranked 13th, NSAA Academic All-State Fall and Winter 2016-2017, class president, also church youth group helper and church acolyte.

During his time at Potter-Dix High School, Josh Hutchinson, son of James and Nancy Hutchinson of Potter, has been involved in football, basketball, quiz bowl, band, choir, one act/drama, lettered in swing choir, play production, member of student council, letterman's club, and book club. His community involvement with Potter children's theater, and blood donor.

Steele and Hutchinson will join nearly 400 other high school juniors from across Nebraska in the American Legion Cornhusker Boys' State, June 3 through June 9 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln downtown campus.

The annual citizenship program, sponsored by the Nebraska American Legion, is designed to provide youth with a better understanding of how city, county and state governments operate. Each boy is sponsored locally by an American Legion Post, or supported by some other patriotic, civic, fraternal or religious group in cooperation with the local American Legion Posts. The Potter American Legion Post 291 is Michael Steele's sponsor, with the Potter Lions Club's financial support and Sidney American Legion Post 17 is Josh Hutchinson's sponsor. The two posts who sponsor Cornhusker Boys' State have made it possible to send the two candidates from Potter-Dix High School.

Special lectures and addresses will be delivered by experienced public officials and professional leaders from Nebraska, on subjects pertinent to the program of instructions.
