Peetz Graduates Twelve Seniors on Mother's Day

Peetz High School held its 2018 graduation ceremony Sunday afternoon, with 12 seniors receiving their diplomas as they head out and start the next chapter of their lives. It was a cool and overcast Mother's Day afternoon, and the ceremony was well-attended by the parents, friends, and relatives of the Peetz graduates in the gymnasium which was decorated in the school and class colors, and featured portraits of each graduate on the sides of the stage where they assembled.

Class of 2018 salutatorian Elizabeth Bruner addressed her classmates in an emotional speech, pausing often to wipe away tears, as she honored the graduates with personal anecdotes ranging from touching, ("Logan (Sircy) you have truly been such a good friend, and taught me how to stay humble through the good times") to funny ("Larami (Bruner)...I still can't believe you don't like Oreos, but we can talk about that another time").

Class of 2018 valedictorian and National Honor Society member Larami Bruner also addressed the gathering, with her speech focusing on the families, friends, and classmates that all helped each student to succeed and earn their diplomas, while reminding them that the future is theirs to control.

She said, "what has happened to us in the past cannot be changed, but we get to choose what happens in our futures", which is a prescient statement considering each graduate now has their entire lives in front of them, and only they can know which is the best course to follow in their own hearts.

Before the diplomas were awarded, there was a slide show featuring each student as they grew from infancy, through elementary school, into high school, then finally ending with their senior portrait. Each student selected the music to accompany each individual slide show. After the presentation, Superintendent Mark Collard and Board President Brad Segelke then passed out the diplomas to the graduates to the applause of the gathered families and well-wishers.

The Class of 2018 earned over $76,000 dollars in scholarship money through various public and private agencies. The immediate future plans of the Class of 2018 are as follows:

Gabe Naegele will be attending Nebraska Wesleyan University

Charles Roderick Will be attending Amarillo Community College

Logan Sircy will be attending Northeastern Junior College

Helmuth Wenneker will be joining the workforce

Abby White will be attending Crowder Community College

Hunter White will be attending Northeastern Junior College
