Area Athletes Compete at State

Sidney High School's Mitch Porter stretches over the bar in the High Jump. Porter finished the State Meet in sixth place in the High Jump.

Sidney, Creek Valley, Potter-Dix, and Leyton high schools sent their state track qualifiers to compete at the 2018 NSAA Track & Field Championships in Omaha on Saturday.

Although there was consistent rain throughout the day, all of the events proceeded as scheduled and some of the local area athletes were able to compete along the best Nebraska has to offer.

Sidney High School competed in the Class B group, and had some success overall. Senior Mitch Porter placed sixth in the High Jump and eighth in Triple Jump and junior Cade Lewis placed eighth in the 100 meters.

The 4x100 meter relay team (Derek Robb, Coby Haas, Christian Balandran, Cade Lewis) placed second overall and the 4x400 meter relay team (Mitch Porter, Skylar Heineman, Christian Balandran, Derek Robb) placed third.

For the girls, sophomore MJ Johnstone placed third in the Pole Vault, clearing 10'06".

In Class D, the Creek Valley boy's 4x100 meter relay team (Noah Knapp, Tanner Crass, Michael Smith, Garrett Sawyer) placed seventh while Creek Valley senior Pierce Leef placed seventh and sophomore Noah Knapp placed sixteenth in the Pole Vault. Creek Valley sophomore Patrcik Hansen placed twenty-third in the Triple Jump.

On the girl's side, Potter-Dix senior Trinity Langley won herself a State Championship in the High Jump, clearing 5' 02" and placed eleventh in the Triple Jump, while Potter-Dix senior Payge Hoffman placed eighteenth in the Long Jump. Creek Valley sophomore Caitlyn Mueller placed eighth in the 100 meter hurdles and sixteenth in the Triple Jump.

Leyton sophomore Madelyn Watchorn placed seventh in the 100 meter hurdles, and sophomore Megan Ernest placed twenty-third in the 800 meters. Leyton's 4x400 meter relay team (Megan Ernest, Danielle Higgins, Ella Draper, Madelyn Watchorn) placed sixteenth overall.
