Katherine E. 'Kay' Zwickl - Obituary

Katherine E. "Kay" Zwickl age 93 of Windsor, CO and former Sidney resident passed away peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Columbine Commons Skilled Nursing Facility in Windsor.

A Rosary service wase held at Thursday, June 21st in the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel. Graveside services at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 22nd in the Greenwood Cemetery. Father Mike McDermott will officiate at both services. The casket will be closed. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel to sign Katherine's register book and drop off condolences for the family. Katherine "Kay" Zwickl was born in Sidney, NE September 24, 1924 to Lester and Grace (Knifer) Vernon. Kay attended Parks Business College in Denver, CO. She married Virgil Zwickl in Monroe, North Carolina on April 10, 1942. Kay was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Sidney and worked at the County Welfare office and Saint Patrick's Rummage House. She had many hobbies that kept her busy while raising their girls, especially sewing and quilt making for all the family members. She resided in Sidney until 2012, moving to Windsor and living at Good Samaritan Senior Resort for five years and then into Columbine Commons.

Kay is survived by just (2) daughters: Sandra Lanigan and husband John, and Vicki Miller, (5) grandchildren: Todd and Troy Feather, Tina O'Connell, Shane Colling and Zenda Courtois and (8) great grandchildren.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years in 1993: Virgil, their infant son Gordon, both of her parents and a brother Robert Vernon.
