Potter Car Bowl Event Set for June 30

Don Ogle

Old and new, rusty and restored, owners of cars proudly showed them off Saturday at the Sidney High School parking lot, where the Sidney High Auto Club held a head-turning fund raising event. Also on hand were the Sidney High Cheerleaders and enthusiastic car guys (and gals).

Potter will host its annual Car Bowl Saturday, an event that has something to offer for everyone in the family.

One of the weekend's featured events is just too big for one day. That event, the Potter Melodrama, will present its lunch and dinner show called "The Crimson House Murder." The Melodrama and dinner is at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday, lunch will be at noon with the play beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday's events kick off at 9 a.m. with the start of the Car Show, which will award the top vehicles with trophies that were cut by the Kimball High School Shop Class on a plasma cutter. The Pinewood Derby starts with the building of the vehicles at 9 a.m. followed by races at 1 p.m. At 10 a.m. the Duckpin Bowling Tournament will get underway, and throughout the day the Craft Fair will be open.

The Mini-Rodeo starts at 6:30 p.m., where area children try their hand at riding mini-bulls and broncos in a fun competition. After the event, the day wraps up with a professional fireworks display.

To participate in any of the events, pre-registration is available. For the Pinewood Derby, registration is available at For the Car Bowl, registration is available at For more information on any events, go to http://www.facebook/pottercarbowl or call 308-879-4451.

This year's proceeds from the event will be granted to the American Legion Community Building Restoration Project.
