The Peetz Bulldogs football team started their season with a familiar drive down to Otis as the rivals opened the 2018 campaign on Friday night.
The 2017 Colorado 6 Man Football State Champions started the contest strong, outscoring the home team 20-to-12 in the first quarter. But Otis was able to tighten their defense and opened up their offense, outscoring the visitors 52-to-23 through the remainder of the game.
Peetz fell to the home team by a final score of 64-to-43, starting their season with an 0-and-1 record.
Peetz coach Scott Sorensen, though disappointed with the loss, expressed confidence in the team, saying “We played a very good Otis team tonight. I was proud of how our kids came out and fought early and they never gave up. I think we showed the state that we are still a top tier team.”
Peetz senior Bryson Long had an outstanding game in the loss, rushing for 105 yards and three touchdowns, including a thrilling 44 yard run.
Senior Jakob Kurz also had an outstanding game on defense, recording 12 tackles and causing a fumble, and also scoring a touchdown in the loss.
The Bulldogs get their chance to even their record against the Fleming Wildcats on September 7 in Peetz’s home opener.
