Sidney Police Kept Busy On Weekend

Sidney police were extra busy last weekend as thieves worked overtime at the I-80 interchange.

Police Chief Joe Aikens reports the crazy weekend began Friday with a rash of shoplifting reports from WalMart. Aikens said in four calls, five people were arrested after trying to shoplift from the store. One other, yet to be identified person, also pushed a cart of goods out the door without paying.

On Saturday, approximately $14,000 worth of tires and rims were stolen from trucks at Buffalo Point Restaurant. Aikens said the trucks were semi tractors connected “piggy back” style and the tires were taken from the trucks while parked. Aikens said 14 sets of tires and rims were taken.

Also Saturday, another keys were stolen from another “piggy back” set up while it was parked at the Love’s Truck Stop.

This week, Police have also begun investigating reports that a number of dogs may have been poisened in town.

The investigation began slowly after the department received information from a local veterinarian on the cases, none of which were reported to police by victims.

Aikens said if residents suspect their animal has been intentionally harmed, they should contact police directly rather than using social media as a sounding board without making a report.
