'For Peetz Sake Days" This Weekend

The Peetz community will be alive with its own level of energy this weekend as it celebrates the community and Peetz High School Homecoming.

Events start Friday with a bake sale and craft sale taking place at the old Fire Hall 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. A horseshoe tournament is scheduled for 4 p.m. Entry fee is $5; draw for partner. A Community Hog Roast, sponsored by the Peetz Lions Club, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Bring a side dish or dessert.

The South Platte Youth Football League (SPYFL) football game is scheduled for 6 p.m. with the community people rally in the Carlile Gym and a bonfire to follow the pep rally.

Saturday's events start at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Fire Station. The Peetz DC Garage Sale is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the old Bus Barn. The Bake Sale/Craft Sale resumes at 8 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m.

Lineup for the parade starts at 9:15 a.m. on the west side of the school with the parade to take place on Main Street beginning at 10 a.m.

Glenn (Mike) and Evelyn Gardiner have been selected by the Peetz Lions Club to serve as parade marshals for the 2018 For Peetz Sake/Homecoming parade.

Mike was born in Windsor, Colorado, and raised in West Plains where he attended country school at Stoney Buttes. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served a year and half in Baumholder, Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1967, he purchased the former Francis Hruza farm west of Peetz from his twin brother, Pat, and is still farming and ranching there today.

Evelyn attended school in Peetz, graduating in 1970. After attending NJC, she transferred to Greeley and graduated with an education degree in 1975. Evelyn taught fifth grade in Lodgepole, NE and coached junior high girls’ volleyball and basketball for two years. Mike and Evelyn were married in Peetz in 1977.

They are the parents of Jim Gardiner of Peetz, Kelli Ferkovich of Crook, Ben Gardiner of Sterling, and Kristin Gardiner of Colorado Springs. The couple has eight grandchildren.

The Peetz Junior High and High School Student Council will have activities between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Games and activities will continue throughout the day at Peetz Park until about 11:15 p.m. A hamburger fry is scheduled prior to the football game, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the school cafeteria. The homecoming football game against Briggsdale is scheduled for 1 p.m. Homecoming royalty will be crowned and the Peetz Sake Parade Marshals recognized during halftime.

The volleyball game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the Carlile Gym between the Peetz girls and Briggsdale.

Homecoming photos will be taken at 8 p.m. prior to the dance with the dance scheduled for 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
