Debra E. "Deb" Horn - Obituary

Debra E. "Deb" Horn age 58 of Sidney, NE entered into her heavenly home surrounded by her loving family on Monday September 24, 2018 in Scottsbluff.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, October 3rd in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, NE with Pastor Neil Carlson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1-7:00 P.M. to sign the register book and leave condolences for the family. Deb's casket will be closed. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Deb's name to the Jack R. Snider UNL Band Alumni Association at the University of Nebraska Foundation; checks can be made payable to the University of Nebraska Foundation and mailed to 1010 Lincoln Mall, Suite 300, Lincoln, NE 68506. Debra Elaine "Deb" Horn, the daughter of Latham Paul and Janice Kathrine (Schlueter) Mortensen, was born on July 8, 1960 in Lincoln, NE. She was baptized in the Grace Lutheran Church in Lincoln. In 1967 when Deb was 6 years old the family moved to Hastings, NE where Deb was confirmed in the First Saint Paul's Lutheran Church and graduated from Hastings High School in 1978. During her high school years she was very active in all musical instrumental programs. Her talents as a bassoonist were awarded with being selected as a member of the Americas Youth in Concert where she accompanied the group on a European Tour. She was also involved with Tri-City Youth Symphony, consisting of Grand Island, Hastings, and Kearney area musicians and the Hastings Dime Symphony. She attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln graduating in 1983 and was a five year member of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cornhusker Marching Band, with the distinction of being a Rank Leader her Junior and Senior Years with her musical instrument being the Tenor Saxophone.

On June 25, 1983 Deb was united in marriage to Rodney L. Horn at the First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE. They moved to Sidney on January 1, 1986 where they currently attended Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church-South Divide. Deb worked for many years with USApron, Inc. They have two adult children Austin and Katie.

Deb had a love for all of Gods living creatures and watching wildlife in their natural settings. Her love of horses as a child continued throughout her adult life. She loved her dogs Travis, Duke, and all her grand-dogs. She enjoyed watching and feeding a variety of birds in Sidney, feeding the hummingbirds when she lived in Colorado and watching Manatees in Florida.

Deb is survived by her husband Rod; son: Austin Horn and wife Sarah of Purdum, NE; daughter: Katie Huhman and husband Koby of Halsey, NE; parents: Latham and Janice Mortensen of Hastings, NE; sister: DeAnn Demo and husband Pat, of Lee's Summit, MO; nephew and niece: Connor and Megan Demo of Lee's Summit, MO; brother-in-law: Mark Horn and wife Licha of Sanger, CA; sister-in-law: Micki Plummer and husband Pat of Clovis, CA; aunts: Elaine Schlueter of Sidney, NE and Frances Lessman of Modesto, CA.

Deb was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Henry and Bev Horn; grandparents: Arno and Katherine Schlueter and Paul and Marian Mortensen.
