Oktoberfest Set for Oct. 5-7

Plan to attend this year's Oktoberfest in Sidney scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-7 at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds.

Oktoberfest starts Friday morning with the Oktoberfest market opening at 9 a.m. at the fairgrounds pavilion. The market will offer fresh produce, home based businesses, novelties and much more. The market will be open until 7 p.m.

The crafts fair will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. indoors and outdoors at the fairgrounds. The Opening Ceremony takes place at noon with a dedication.

There will be continuous free entertainment at the Oktoberfest tent from noon to midnight. The beer garden will be open and a variety of ethnic foods will be available. "Borderline" is the entertainment in the O'fest Tent from 9 p.m. to midnight.

In addition to the festivities at the fairgrounds, the "Rod & Roll Car Show" will be happening at Legion Park Friday and Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Cruise 'N Class Car Club. New this year is a 1950s Flashback Party to be held Friday evening. The event will also include a costume contest, Sock Hop, food and entertainment Friday at the armory. Saturday starts with the SRMC Oktoberfest 5K walk and 10K run. The race begins at the Community Center and finishes at the Oktoberfest tent. Runners are encouraged to park at the fairgrounds and take a shuttle to the race starting line. Prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female finishers, age group finishers and best costume. The Oktoberfest market opens at 9 a.m. and continues through 7 p.m. in the pavilion at the fairgrounds.

The Oktoberfest parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. in downtown Sidney.

Following the parade, the day will be filled with endless entertainment at the Oktoberfest tent at the fairgrounds. "Dance Steps" with instructor Margaret Meier will be on stage 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. "GLA YV A," Irish and Scottish dancers from the Denver area, will be up from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. The Turtle Creek Band will be playing bluegrass favorites from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. At 4 p.m., Los Guadalupanos and Hip-Hop Dancers take the stage. Freddie Marquez will be singing from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. The Cheyenne County Community Band will be on stage 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Connect 4 Dance performs "World Of Dance Show" from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

The pipes hit the stage at 8 p.m. when the Denver & District Pipe Band & Dancers entertain the Oktoberfest crowd. "High Horses" will be providing music to dance to from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Sunday's activities start at 11:30 a.m. with a church service. Food booths also will be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. At 1 p.m., the Weiner Dog Races will take place in the pavilion.
