4-H'ers and their families celebrated their accomplishments of the past year during the annual Cheyenne County 4-H Achievement Banquet on Sunday, October 21. Both 4-H members and leaders were recognized.
Outstanding 4-H'ers for 2018 were Hannah Stahl and Christian Nguyen. This award is presented to high school seniors who have excelled in their involvement in the Cheyenne County 4-H program. Selection is based on participation in 4-H activities. Stahl is the daughter of Sarah and Shaun Deeds of Potter. Nguyen is the son of Katherine and Nick Nguyen of Chappell. Both are members of the Bunker Hillbillies 4-H Club.
Five seniors were selected to receive $500 academic scholarships to be used in the second semester of their freshman year at the college or university of their choice. Scholarship recipients are: Hannah Stahl, Christian Nguyen, Ella Miller, Danielle Higgins, and Ashlyn Roelle.
Jasmine Deeds, daughter of Mikki Deeds of Sidney, received the Chad Nienhueser Memorial 4-H Scholarship. The scholarship encourages recipients to explore learning opportunities outside of Cheyenne County.
Ten 4-H'ers were selected to represent the county in the state career portfolio contest: Hannah Stahl, Felicity Beyer, Christian Nguyen, Ella Miller, Rhegan Devier, Matthais Beyer, Jasmine Deeds, Kaylee Eddy, Toni Heitt, and Danielle Higgins.
Sidney Regional Medical Center was this year's recipient of the Friend of 4-H award. This award recognizes individuals or businesses for their support of the 4-H program. For several years, SRMC has generously donated both financially and staff support for the 4-H program.
The past two years, they have donated Josh the Otter books for Cheyenne County Safety Day which reaches on an average of 160 second graders in the county. This program is geared to educate youth to learn how to float/swim.
In making the award, Extension Educator Cynthia Gill said SRMC has been very generous in helping with several of 4-H events such as Connect the Dots and Inventure Day with volunteers and financial sponsorships. During the County Fair, SRMC provided first aid services, bottled water, ice cream for the 4-H'ers and participated in the livestock auction.
Gill received the Heart of 4-H award. She has been the Extension Educator for Youth Development in Cheyenne, Kimball and Banner counties for the last six years. Before that, she was a volunteer leader of the Dryland Toughies 4-H Club. She is moving with her family to Maryland.
The 4-H Diamond Clover Program is a statewide program which encouraged 4-H'ers to participate in a variety of projects and activities. Everyone who participates is eligible to earn recognition. Youth progress from Level 1 to Diamond Level 6. This year's recipients are: Diamond Clover Recipients: Ruby – Kord McMillen and Emerald – Felicity Beyer.
4-H'ers recognized as having the best 4-H career portfolio in their respective project areas received certificates, project pins and project scholarships for their accomplishments. These 4-H'ers and their project areas are:

Four clubs were recognized for meeting the criteria as a Nebraska Club of Excellence – Dryland Toughies 4-H Club, Bunker Hillbillies 4-H Club, Sidney Wranglers 4-H Club and Lucky Livestock 4-H Club.
Two clubs received $500 grants from the Governor's Award of Excellence. These clubs are Cheyenne County 4-H Robotics Club and Dryland Toughies 4-H Club.
