Chamber Updates City Council

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce remains busy promoting the community and businesses, Chamber President and CEO Hope Feeney said Tuesday.

The Chamber continues to work on the Hickory Street Project, seeking funding for the Hickory Street Project. The Chamber was awarded a $1,000 ASKARBEN grant, and applied for a $250,000 Thomas D. Buckley Grant. The Chamber is also in the process of contacting businesses for corporate sponsorships.

In addition, the Chamber is looking to partner with a 501c3 nonprofit to apply for grants. The Chamber is looking into working with the Nebraska Community Foundation.

Feeney said three Rental Assistance applications were reviewed and approved. Applications were received from IWARNDU, LLC., The Growcery and Fahey’s Public House.

She said five businesses were added to the membership since Sept. 1; Vitalix, Inc., House of Flowers, Aflac — Jennifer Powell, Laughing Lamb Fibers and Beyer Solutions, LLC. Ribbon Cuttings were held for the grand opening of Triple O’s Building Supply and Laughing Lamb Fibers.

Feeney said the Chamber is collaborating with the Nebraska Department of Labor. She spoke at a NDOL board meeting in September, and job listings are posted on the Chamber’s Facebook page through the NDOL.

Internet-based sales is one of the avenues for building business. It is about reaching customers who may not be geographically nearby, while still staying in contact with walk-in customers.

The Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce is working with a company that offers one site for multiple companies or organizations to use.

ShopWhereILive.com is a virtual Main Street where vendors can promote their goods at a low cost. Leads are only $15 per month, and the E-Commerce Shop $20 per month.

She said new board members will be announced at the end of October. Board meetings will be restructured to include four initiatives with break-out sessions at each meeting. Upcoming events include Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24, Holidays in Hickory with an elf theme is scheduled for Dec. 1 and the annual banquet will be Jan. 18.
