Richard L. Glassburn - Obituary

Richard L. Glassburn, 70 of Ogallala, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Rick was born July 12, 1948, at Lincoln, Nebraska. In September of 1957, he was adopted by Milan and Virginia (Hobbs) Glassburn. He graduated from Lorenzo High School near Sidney. In October of 1967, Richard entered the US Air Force, where he served in Vietnam. Following his discharge, Rick went to school to work on center pivot irrigation systems. On June 22, 1973, Rick was united in marriage to Ruth Carter at Sterling, Colorado. Their union was blessed with 4 children Kevin, Rebecca, Jennifer, and Billy. Rick would eventually take a job with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad that took him to Gillette, WY, and Edgemont, SD before settling in Alliance, Nebraska, where he worked in the diesel shop. His career spanned nearly 25 years before an injury at work led to his eventual retirement in 2001. Rick and Ruth moved to a farm 22 miles southwest of Sidney before deciding to relocate to Ogallala in 2008.

Rick loved hunting and fishing any time he had the chance. While many suspected that their 2008 move to Ogallala was due to a desire to be closer to family, it was perhaps more closely related to the allure of better hunting and fishing opportunities. Rick was also very much about his grandchildren; who will always remember the way he showered them with attention and kisses. Rick attended the Apostolic Family worship Center faithfully until his illness.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, and a son in law, Clayton Pluard.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Ogallala; children, Kevin (Sarah) Glassburn of Bellevue, Rebecca (Paul) Gross of Phillipsburg, KS, Jennifer Pluard of North Platte, Billy (Wendy) Glassburn of Ogallala; eleven grandchildren, Bryclyn, Kinsley, Breann, Nichole, Alex, Ashley, Jessica, Makayla, Kaydence, Hunter, & Natalie; along with many other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Rick's memory for later designation by his family. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com.
