A Day of Drama: Sidney Places Fourth in One-Act Play Competition

Sidney High School was crowded Friday with teams and fans from eight schools Friday. Each team entered with the determination to be the best, in Class B-6 District Play Production.

The one-act play competition included Sidney High School's production of "Gilligan's Island," Mitchell doing "The Mad Tea Party," Chadron's "Rosie the Riveter," Alliance's rendition of "Hamlette," Gering High School's "Candide," Gordon-Rushville's "Nicholas Nickleby," McCook High School's "The Yellow Boat," and Ogallala performing "Something Wicked This Way Comes."

The day started with Mitchell's performance of "The Mad Tea Party." Sidney's drama troupe followed with "Gilligan's Island." The play followed the storyline of the television show with the three-hour boat tour resulting in the seven passengers and crew of two getting stranded on an island. Gilligan's good intentions can't keep up with his clumsy antics, resulting in rescue effort after effort stopped by broken equipment.

The Sidney cast included Thomas Short as Gilligan, Tristan Ahrendt as the Skipper, Sophia Price as Lovey, Jonas Johnson as Thurston Howell III, Hannah Ernst as Mary Ann, Mason Nightingale as Ginger, Kameron Dadgostar as the Professor and Karli Christofferson as the alien. Grant Campbell was the radio announcer, Elizabeth Weimer the pianist and the ensemble was made up by Dani Brockhaus, Alexia Butts, Kaitlyn Darnall, Natalie Stokes and Haley Williamson. The stage crew consisted of Haile Christofferson, William Draper and Kaylee Eddy.

The day ended with a presentation of team and individual awards. Gordon-Rushville took first in the event, followed by Chadron, Ogallala and Sidney. Sidney High School also received several individual Outstanding Performance Awards including Tristan Ahrendt, Tom Short, Mason Nightingale, Jonas Johnson, and Sophie Price.
