Alice E. Chaon - Obituary

Alice E. Chaon, age 93 of Sidney and a longtime resident of Cheyenne County passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018 in Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, December 13th in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Corey Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday, December 12th from 1-7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alice's name to Team Jack Foundation, funding research for Pediatric Brain Cancer, P.O. Alice Elenor Chaon, the daughter of John and Tressie (Lovell) Herboldsheimer, was born on November 15, 1925 in Kimball, NE. The family lived in the Potter area until 1944 when she met Donald J. Chaon. They were married on June 23, 1944 at San Francisco, CA and lived there until March of 1945 when they returned to Potter. In 1964 they bought and owned several motels in Sterling, CO, Kimball, NE and Woodward, OK. In 1968 they bought the Sidney Motor Lodge in Sidney where they operated the motel until 1985 when they sold out to retire. Alice was employed at Cabelas from 1985 to 1996.

Alice is survived by her son Larry Chaon and wife Cindy, (11) grandchildren and (27) great-grandchildren: (2) sisters: Jane Luke of Ashtrubla, OH, Coral Rapp of Sidney: (1) brother: John Herboldsheimer and wife Karen of Potter plus many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband: Donald J. in 1996, her parents: John and Tressie Herboldsheimer: her son: Donald L .; her daughter Kathleen Assad, (3) brothers and (4) sisters: sister-in-law and best bud, Mary Lou Heins and husband Lee Heins.
