The High Plains Chapter No. 278 of Pheasants Forever will hold its annual banquet at the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds on March 1.
Tickets are $50 for members and $65 for a member and spouse, $10 for youth membership and $10 for a bottomless beer mug. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.highplainspf278.org.
The event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a live auction, silent auction and raffles for adult and youth hunting trips, firearms, framed prints, two Labrador puppies and more. The High Plains Chapter is seeking volunteers to help with the event. Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, free admission to the event and dinner. To volunteer, call Julie Bules at 308-874-6171.
Proceeds from the event remain in control of the High Plains No. 278 Chapter. Proceeds are used to support projects including local habitat development and maintenance, funding of youth hunts, veteran hunts, youth pollinator projects.
Between 1990 and 2016, the High Plains Chapter spent $676,028 on 2,664 projects, impacting almost 44,000 acres. At the Nebraska State Pheasants Forever Banquet held in Kearney recently, the High Plains Chapter was recognized as tied for first with the Top Banquet membership in 2018 with 191 in attendance. The Chapter also received the Conservation Excellence Award, the 2018 Outstanding Chapter award in appreciation for more than $750,000 in contributions to local habitat and conservation projects, placing the Chapter among the top eight in Nebraska history
Pheasants Forever began in the early 1980s as a group of hunters, farmers, ranchers, conservation enthusiasts and wildlife officials and non-hunters as a way to make a difference with wildlife by building habitat, restoring wetlands and protecting prairies. It was formed as a way to conserve natural resources and encourage outdoor activities.
Pheasants Forever was incorporated in 1982 and the first Nebraska chapter was chartered in 1986.
Pheasants Forever started a partner program, Quail Forever, in August 2005. Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever combined have more than 740 chapters and 145,000 members in the U.S. and Canada.
