In October 2018, Dianne Bates was diagnosed with throat cancer, Stage 4 Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

The diagnosis came after four to five months of doctor visits. After each visit, Bates and her family left with her symptoms getting worse. Her first surgery came just 12 hours after her diagnosis. Procedures included a tracheotomy and a feeding tube. She had another surgery in November to remove the mass, and to reconstruct her throat. Doctors removed all of the “visible cancer” in the 16-hour procedure, according to her family.

Following surgery, she was in six weeks of recovery...
