Sidney Woman Faces Charges Following Go-Fund-Me Misappropriation

A Sidney woman is due to appear in Cheyenne County Court Monday on charges stemming from an alleged theft of Go-Fund-Me funds that were to benefit the family of a house fire.

Samantha Robertson, 27, was cited by Sidney Police for Theft by Unlawful Taking after receiving a report that she had used the Go-Fund-Me account money for her own personal use rather than distributing it to its intended benefactor. At the time, Robertson was the administrator of the Go-Fund-Me account set up to assist Barbara Serkiz, whose home was destroyed by fire in December.

According to the police report, Serkiz was told by Robertson multiple times that there were delays in releasing the Go-Fund-Me funds. Serkis told police that after a number of inquiries, Robertson told her that she had used the funds for her own personal use.

When interviewed by police, Robertson admitted to using the funds for personal expenses and items for her home. She told police that afterward, she gave Serkis a number of misleading statements about the funds.

After making a Voluntary Written Statement, Robertson was cited and released.
