Sidney senior Christian Balandran signed a commitment letter to attend Chadron State College to run track for the Eagles starting in the Fall of 2019. Balandran was joined by family and friends at the signing ceremony at Sidney High School on Wednesday.

"Chadron State really felt like home when I visited, and I really like that it's close to home so I can be near my family," said Balandran.

Balandran will have a few familiar faces from Sidney joining him at Chadron State in the fall, as track teammate Dante Petersen and basketball standout Meaghan Ross are also matriculating in the Fall. Balandran plans on studying Sports Management when classes begin.

Balandran plans to focus on the sprinting events to start his college track career but is open to other running events.

"I'm going to work as hard as possible to contribute to the team, and I'll compete in whichever events the coach decides is best for the team," said Balandran.

Sidney head track coach Matt McKay attended the ceremony and said, "Christian's been a staple when it comes to Sidney Track and Field over the past four years. He has several state medals, ran on a state champion 4x400 team, and just missed out on the same with the 4x100 team. His work ethic is impressive and he is an amazing kid. I am glad he's getting the opportunity to showcase his abilities at the next level."
