Sidney Seniors Take Final Steps in High School

Thanking moms, parents and the community, at large, Sidney School Superintendent Jay Ehler led the "farewell" to 91 seniors at the school's graduation ceremony Monday.

"As the saying goes, 'it takes a village to raise a child,' " Ehler said during opening remarks. He said the community had done all it could to help prepare the students in the Class of 2019 to move on to the next chapter in their lives.

"These young men and women are ready to greet the future, knowing their possibilities are limitless," Ehler said. "They are prepared and ready to move on to life beyond Sidney High School. It is gratifying to see that you have matured and become proficient, you're prepared for new challenges and to work toward new goals. You are ready for new opportunities and changes that await you."

Afterward, Salutatorian Seth Studnicka was presented, followed by a rendition of "Lean on Me" sung by the Heartbreakers and Sidney Singers.

Delivering the Valedictorian address, Allison Nesbitt said it's going to take work for class members to achieve what they want, adding they can't let challenges stand in their way, and push forward in the face of adversity.

"Now is the time for us to live our lives, a time when our dreams are within reach," said Nesbitt. "Now is the time for all of us to become the people we have always dreamed of being."

The class chose the motto: "Our lives are before us, our past behind us, but our memories are forever with us," by an unknown author.

Other class choices included the White Magnolia as its flower; Red, White and Black for colors; and "Send Me on My Way" by Rusted Root as its song.

Class officers included President: Cade Lewis, Vice-President: Macie Rolls, Secretary: Meaghan Adams-Ross, and Treasurer: Arik Doty. Class sponsors were Ryan Plummer and Tess Plummer.
