Havorka Appears in Court on Drug Charges

David Havorka, 56, of Sidney, appeared in Cheyenne County District Court Thursday, Oct. 17 for a preliminary hearing on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Havorka was arrested after Sidney Police Department Investigator Amanda Barrett was granted a search warrant on Sept. 11 to locate methamphetamine and other drug-related items from inside Western Cable in Sidney, including a 2008 Ford Escape and any vehicle Havorka had control of, according to the Arrest Affidavit. That afternoon, SPD Sgt. Chad Borgmann reported seeing Havorka exit a red Ford Escape at Havorka Motors on 12th Avenue and Illinois Street in Sidney. A traffic stop was made after Havorka was seen drive a red pickup truck to Git N' Split across the street from Havorka Motors and return to the business.

A search warrant was executed on the pickup and the Ford Escape, resulting in officers finding a small black bag in the cargo area of the Escape. Inside the bag was a glass meth pipe with residue, a butane torch lighter and a cellophane baggie containing about one gram of suspected methamphetamine.

Investigator Barrett returned to the police department where a field test confirmed the substance was a presumptive positive for methamphetamine.
