Lady Warriors Top Creek Valley

Leyton's Lady Warrior Basketball team hosted the struggling Creek Valley Lady Storm on Friday, and the visitors kept the score close in the first period, playing strong enough defense to keep close in the first half. After building a 21-to-14 lead to start the third period, the Lady Warriors started to pull away with senior Madelyn Watchorn taking over the game and putting the home team up 40-to-24 at the end of the third period. A strong finish secured the victory for the Lady Warriors by a final score of 51-to-31.

The Lady Warriors then faced a tough Sioux County team on Saturday. The 14-and-5 visitors quickly took control of the game using their speedy passing attack and pressure defense to put up 25 points in the first half while holding the Leyton squad to just 11. Leyton could not get their offense in gear against the tough Sioux County defense, again only mustering 13 points in the half to fall by a final score of 45-to-24.

After the games, Leyton Head Coach Jed Benish said, "We were able to get past Creek Valley on Friday, and it wasn't pretty, but it was a win. We've been battling with illness and haven't had full practices, but we were able to limit a strong Sioux County team to just 26 points in the second half. Unfortunately, we could not get our own shots to fall against a very physical team. We didn't even attempt a free throw the entire game, which really had us struggling for points."

Leyton was scheduled to face Bayard on Tuesday, then follow up with a contest against Garden County on Thursday at home.
