Auditors Give City Clean Review

The Sidney City Council received the City's annual audit on Feb. 11. The report presented by Rauner & Associates, P.C., shows total assets for the city increased slightly less than .5 percent with expenses decreased almost 5 percent and revenues increased nearly 1 percent.

Total assets of Business-type Activities decreased by nearly a quarter percent, down by $119,773, expenses decreased by 1.37 percent, $179,945 and revenues decreased by $43,393, or .31 percent.

Robert Rauner, Jr., said the agency has given the audit a “clean opinion.” A clean opinion, sometimes called an “unqualified opinion,” is a report that is issued when a auditor determines that each of the financial records provided is free of any misrepresentations.

In other business, the council approved Dana Revell serving on the City of Sidney Tree Board. Revell will be completing the term left vacant by the resignation of Kelsey Pettit. At Tree Board Chairman Tom Von Seggern's recommendation, the council approved Revell for a three-year term beyond completion of Pettit's term. Pettit resigned from the board due to his employment relocation. Board members serve three-year terms with Pettit's term expiring April 24, 2020. Pettit served on the Tree Board beginning in 2016.

Remaining board members are Ryan Reisdorff with his term expiring April 24, Tanasia Uhrig with her term expiring April 24, 2021 and Don Ogle with his term expiring April 24, 2022.

Civil Service Commission Secretary Jo Houser also informed the council the Civil Service Commission is seeking a new member.

Dr. Jeff Cook submitted his resignation effective Feb. 1, 2020. The Civil Service Commission consists of three members who serve six-year terms. The three-member board meets as needed.

“They're over the police department. After the testing is done, they determine an eligibility list for the city manager and police chief,” Houser said.

A board member must be a resident of the city of Sidney and registered voter. Houser said this is the only board where there cannot be more than two electors from the same party.
