Serving proudly since 1873 as the beautiful Nebraska Panhandle's first newspaper
Sidney -The Cheyenne County Chamber awarded the December Dress Down Day funds to the King's Daughters the help cover the cost of their annual Christmas Boxes. December is a busy month for King's Daughters.
Treat bags and cookie trays are delivered to shut- ins, elderly individuals, Western Heritage residents and those in the community who could use a little cheer. Poinsettias are delivered to individuals who have lost loved ones during the year. Christmas décor is hung at all the nursing/assisted living centers along with ensuring that each resident has a small gift. Approximately 130 food boxes are assembled, ready to be dispersed to families in need during the Christmas season. The boxes provide an entire Christmas meal for their family. The Sidney Wide Awake Circle of King's Daughters was founded by Fort Sidney military wives in 1891 and continues to help those in need around our communities throughout the year. Donations are needed year around to handle these outreach efforts. Individuals or groups who wish to donate may do so in correspondence to:
King's Daughters, P.O. Box 823, Sidney, NE 69162
Thanks to participating employers and employees all over the county, the Dress Down Day committee was able to award $352.49 to this wonderful organization. Contributors donate just $2 a month for a day to "skirt" the dress code and enjoy a more comfortable day on the job. During the past 23 years, Dress Down Day has supported over 250 organizations with over $250,000 in funds. If you are interested in participating, or applying for Dress Down Day funds, please contact the Cheyenne County Chamber office by phone (308-254-5851) or email: [email protected]
