Keep Sidney Beautiful Great American Cleanup Events

Cheyenne County - Each spring Keep American Beautiful Affiliates join together to host events as part of the Great American Cleanup.

Last year over 550,000 volunteers participated in events around the country and collected an estimated 23.4 million pounds of litter and recyclables. For 2020, the 22nd year of the Great American Cleanup, Keep Sidney Beautiful is hosting a series of cleanups and events to reduce litter in Cheyenne County, increase recycling, and to beautify our communities.

Keep Sidney Beautiful is going to kick off these events on March 21st, Global Recycling Day, by handing out free reusable grocery bags around the county. Look for KSB Board Members and Volunteers around the Legion Park and Safeway recycling bins, and wherever else we might pop up.

Our first Community Cleanup of the year will take place on March 28th starting at 10am. So far, there will be teams hosted in Sidney and Dalton, and hopefully the other villages will jump on board as well. In order to make this event a success, Keep Sidney Beautiful needs volunteers from all over the county to give just a few hours to help pick up trash and get it off the street. This is a chance to show some community pride and get involved in an organization striving to improve our county! Gloves, trash bags, water and snacks will be provided by Keep Sidney Beautiful.

At the end of April, Keep Sidney Beautiful is celebrating Arbor Day with the South Platte Natural Resources District and hosting a free tree giveaway. On Friday, April 24th come by the Chamber of Commerce office and get a free bare root tree, learn about the Arbor Day Foundation, and how KSB and the SPNRD are working together to keep Cheyenne County a clean, green, and beautiful place to live.

Finally, Keep Sidney Beautiful will wrap up the Great American Cleanup with our Annual Great Trash Race, where teams are pitted against one another to clean the most litter from our streets and win awesome prizes. This event is still very much in the planning stages so stay tuned for more details.
