Sidney Public School Nurses Benefit from Dress Down Days

April Dress Down Day funds were collected and distributed to the Sidney Public School Nurses to help purchase a Spot Vision Screener, a valuable tool in assessing vision for students of various ages and abilities.

The State of Nebraska requires school health screenings which include height, weight, dental, hearing and vision (unless an exam completed by a Primary Care Physician [PCP] is provided) for Preschool, Kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, seventh and 10th grade students.

When the school health screening is completed, and if a concern is noted, the school nurse will send a referral letter home.

For vision screening concerns, a Spot Vision screening report can also be included with the referral letter.

The Spot Vision Screener is a handheld vision screening device that helps users quickly and easily detect possible vision issues. It screens both eyes at once from a non-threatening three-foot distance.

It is especially beneficial for the young aged students and non-verbal students since it is not subjective, but rather an objective screening tool.
