Gwen Highland

Gwen Highland, 84, of Sidney passed away early Saturday morning, August 15, 2020 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center.

Per Gwen’s request, a small family celebration was held in her honor.

Memorials in Gwen’s name can be made to the family for later designation.

Gwen was born on February 14th, 1936 to Carl and Alta Jacobs in Chappell, NE.

On September 6, 1966, Gwen was united in marriage to Kay Highland. She lived in Sidney, NE until late 1990 and then she ventured to Bremerton, Washington, Lincoln, Nebraska, Stuttgart, Germany, Washington D.C. and spent time living with each of her children until the time of her death.

Gwen was a selfless and caring person, always giving and helping her kids and grandkids.  She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, eating good food, and shopping at Costco, but most of all she enjoyed her time spent with family.  She was a great person and will be missed by all. 

Gwen is survived by her children Jolynn (Jim) Stewart, Sidney, NE, Julie (Jerred) Berner, Sidney NE, Sandra (Gio) Mercuri, Arlington, VA, Michele (John) Hollatz, Madison, AL and Terry Highland, Sidney, NE. She also left behind 6 grandchildren, Amanda Hart, Courtnie Highland, Kaitlyn Berner, Taylor Berner, Kaylor Hollatz and Kinsey Hollatz.  She also is survived by one great grandson, Gauge Harcsa.

Gwen was preceded in death by both her parents, her infant sister, Audrey Jacob and her husband, Kay Highland.
