Lady Raiders Wallop Alliance

Sidney’s Lady Raider Basketball team hosted the Alliance Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday February 9, and it was the only action either of the Red Raider Basketball teams had all week due to weather postponements of the teams’ contests between Chadron on Friday night, and the boy’s game against Cozad Saturday.

The Lady Raiders had already beaten Alliance twice by large margins this season, and last week’s contest was no different as Sidney surged to a 22-to-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, then increased their lead to 47-to-10 at the halftime intermission. Sidney’s tough pressure defense caused the Lady Bulldog’s to repeatedly turn the ball over, and gave the Lady Raiders an insurmountable lead. Senior Karly Sylvester’s score on a rebound in the beginning of the third quarter gave Sidney a 40 point advantage, and started the running clock. Sidney scored an additional 17 points in the half to cruise to a 64-to-24 victory. Junior Alecca Campbell led the scoring for Sidney with 12 points in the victory.

The Lady Raiders earned the top seed in their Sub district, and will host the C1-12 Sub District Tournament starting on Tuesday, where they first match up against number four seed Ogallala. The boys will compete in the B-8 Sub district Tournament starting next week.
