Cheyenne County Republicans Meet

Discuss Sen. Sasse Resigning from Ag Committee

The Cheyenne County Republican Committee met March 23, 2021 in the meeting room at the Security First Bank.

The first meeting of the new year was spent deliberating over whether to censure Senator Ben Sass. After much discussion the committee decided not to censure Senator Sass, as there is no “teeth” in that measure, and that it would only serve to give him additional publicity. We did instead unanimously vote to approve and pass the same resolution that the Nebraska GOP State Central committee passed, based on 13 points of action or lack of action on the part of Senator Sass.

The resolution can be seen in its entirety at ne.gop. The items most sited were his silence on the closing of major industries and initiatives including the closing of Cabela’s and the recent cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Senator Sass also resigned from the Agricultural Committee to take a junior position on the Judiciary Committee making it the first time in 50 years that Nebraska did not hold a place on the Ag committee. Appreciation was expressed to Senator Deb Fischer for subsequently adding this committee to her already full assignment.

Also addressed were the new standards for health education as proposed by the Nebraska Department of Education.

All are encouraged to review what is being proposed, especially the sex education standards, and take the survey. You can look at the proposed standards at http://www.education.ne.gov. We encourage all people, especially parents, to send letters opposing these new standards. Letters should be addressed to Dr. Matthew Blomstedt and Board Members, Nebraska Department of Education, P. O. Box 94987, Lincoln, NE 68509-4987.

Cheyenne County Vice Chair David West is currently working on a web page so that all this information can be found in a collective space. Be watching for the launch of the new website. A new e-mail has also been established, and all can send comments and ask to be placed on a mailing list to receive future updates at [email protected]. We also acknowledged your newly elected 3rd District Chairman, Ron Schmidt from Ogallala, and we are confident he will bring new energy and excitement to State GOP Board.
