Marvin Dean Bartling, age 86, of Lodgepole, NE passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the Veteran’s Home in Scottsbluff, NE after a swift but fierce battle with a brain tumor. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Lion’s Den in Chappell, NE with Pastor Brent DeJong of Grace Community Fellowship officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery north of Lodgepole. The casket will be closed. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1-6:00 P.M. to sign Marvin’s register book and leave condolences for the family. Memorials have been established to the Grace Community Fellowship, the Alzheimer’s Association or the LAM Foundation. Marvin Dean Bartling was born on August 12, 1934 in Chappell, NE. he had four siblings and his parents were Richard and Matilda (Scharrel) Bartling.

He attended Goodview School and graduated in 1951 at Lodgepole High School. He enlisted in the Marines and was stationed in California. He attended trade school at Milford, NE for two years and studied auto body technology.

On July 14, 1957 he married the love of his life, Ruth Barnhart at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lodgepole, NE. They made their home on a farm north of Lodgepole. He worked at the Vo Tech College teaching auto body near Sidney, NE. He taught there from 1971 to 1997. He also had a shop at the farm where he did auto body on the side. He was very motivated to provide for his family of seven children.

Marvin loved anything to do with cars, fishing and gardening. He especially loved farming and restoring tractors, especially his red Farmall tractor. Most of all, he loved to laugh and sing and spend time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other family members and friends.

Survivors include their children: Valerie and husband Rich Bond of Cambridge, NE, Mark and wife Rita Bartling of Lodgepole, NE, John and wife Katie Bartling of Douglas, WY, Julie Koza of Scottsbluff, NE, Matt and wife Tammy Bartling of Kearney, NE, Kristina and husband Doran Bush of Kimball, NE and Robert and wife Kerri Bartling of Elm Creek, NE; one brother Gary Bartling of Potter, NE; one sister Doris and husband Ray Walker of Glenrock, WY; eighteen grandchildren; six great-grand children an many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents, two brothers Lloyd (Bud) and Vernon, a niece Lori Bartling, and a great-grandson Jackson.
