SPNRD Board of Directors May Meeting

On Tuesday, May 11, 2021 the South Platte Natural Resources District (SPNRD) Board of Directors (Board) held its monthly meeting at 5:00 p.m. in the South Platte NRD Conference Room (551 Parkland Drive, Sidney NE).

Ryan Reisdorff, Water Resources Specialist with the SPNRD, reviewed information about Industrial and Municipal Water Use Accounting and Water Usage in Excess of Baselines. There are some industries in the District as well as a municipality that will potentially go over their baseline of water use. It is in the Statute that NRDs must offset up to 25 million gallons anytime an industry or municipality goes over their baseline.

The board recommended Reisdorff to work with the Department of Natural Resources to use the credit in the modeling to cover the offset. Reisdorff believes there is enough in the carryforward to cover the overage.

Travis Glanz, Water Resources Coordinator with the SPNRD, discussed the possibility of increasing the flowmeter cost share program amount. He reviewed cost details from 2008 when the cost share program started. The current rates are $150 for flowmeter repair and $30 for flowmeter maintenance. Glanz will gather more information on increasing cost share and how it will fit in the budget.

Thad Kuntz P.G, Adaptive Resources Inc. (ARI) presented on the Preliminary Producible Aquifer Material in the District. ARI is processing data from the geophysical logs received from the Nebraska Oil and Gas Commission as well as data gathered from dedicated NRD monitoring wells.

These geophysical logs provided information on the producible and likely non-producible portions of the Ogallala Aquifer. This data will help in understanding the percentage of saturated aquifer material in the District. ARI will be able to incorporate this data into the modeling to determine the effect on the Aquifer life Analysis.
