Frances R. Lessman

Frances R. Lessman, age 88, of Bridgeport, NE passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 in Bridgeport, NE. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 26, 2021 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, NE with Pastor Allen Strawn officiating. Burial will be in the Dalton Cemetery in Dalton, NE. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday from 1-6:00 P.M. to sign Frances’s register book and leave condolences for the family. Family will be present from 4-6:00 P.M. Memorials can be made to the Friends of the Morrill County Library.

Frances was born on October 10, 1933 to Paul and Marian (Fredricksen) Mortensen on a farm south of Dalton, NE. Frances taught school at the Crammer School in Morrill County.

She was married on June 19, 1952 to Delbert R. Lessman and to this union were born 3 children, Kathleen, Darwin and Charlene.

She was served as President for the Cheyenne County Extension Club, she was 4-H leader for 10 years for the 4-H Dolls Club, a Girl Scout leader for 5 years, a Sunday School for Catechism, Matron for Providence Chapter #108 OES and for 24 years was known as “Grandma Frances” a nursery nurse at Memorial Health Center. She was a member of the Morrill County Public Library Book Club.

She enjoyed senior cards at Prairie Winds Community Center in Bridgeport. She also loved to travel and would hitch a ride whenever the car was on the move.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen Dinges and husband, Bill, Darwin Lessman and wife, Janie and Charlene Larson and husband, Bill; brother Latham Mortensen and family; 5 sister-in-laws; grandchildren Brad Lessman and Lisa Sanderson; great grandchildren Jasmine and Aspen Lessman, Nathan and Brendan Sanderson and Aiden Lessman; step grandchildren Jay Dinges, Lori Gibby, Scott Dinges and Phyllis Kuntz; 12 step great grandchildren and 6 step great, great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and very special friend Robert Kies.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Laura Marie, niece Deb Horn and son-in-law Art Kuntz.

She loved and missed by her friends and church family in Modesto, CA.
