Lewis J. Bruns

Lewis J. Bruns, age 89, of Lodgepole, NE passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in Sidney. A Rosary will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 3, 2021, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney, NE. with Father C.P. Varghese officiating. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney with Military Honors.

Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday, December 2, 2021, from 1-6:00 P.M. to sign Lewis’s register book and leave condolences for the family. Family will not be present.

Lewis was born June 15, 1932, at Lodgepole, NE, to Herman and Dena (Block) Bruns. He attended school at District 32 and Sidney Public Schools. He worked at Stickney’s Inc. in Sidney. In September 1952, Lewis was drafted into the United States Army serving in Korea until September 1954. He was honorably discharged from the reserves in September 1960.

Lewis married Dorothy Schumacher at Sidney in 1955 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. They moved to the Weyerts community in 1957 where they farmed and lived most of their married life. He was a member of the American Legion and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy, their children Stephen Bruns, Donna Sylvester, Marilyn Graham, Jonathan Bruns and Lisa (Steven) Vasa, Twelve grand-children and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Esther Siemers, his brothers, Chet and Alvin Bruns and son-in-law John Neil Graham.
