Lady Storm Still Trying For First Win

Creek Valley had their final games of the 2021 year in December at the Perkins County Holiday Tournament, but only the girl's team could participate as the Creek Valley boys had to forfeit due to illness limiting their numbers, giving Perkins County a 1-to-0 victory.

The Lady Storm first matched up against Wallace's Lady Wildcats Monday afternoon in the first round of the tournament.

The Wallace team came out strong, smothering the Lady Storm offense while getting good looks and scoring points. The Lady Wildcats built a 23-to-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, then continued to score in the second quarter. The Lady Storm were able to get settled and work the ball better on offense, and put up 15 points in the second quarter, but still trailed 43-to-21 at the half. Wallace finished off the Lady Storm in the third period, going on a big run and putting up 25 points to Creek Valley's seven points in the quarter.

The running clock shortened the rest of the half, and Wallace coasted to a 69-to-33 win. Sophomore Ella Whiting led the scoring for the Lady Storm with 12 points in the loss.

Next up on Tuesday, the Lady Storm faced the Hyannis Lady Longhorns. The first period was low scoring, with the Lady Storm struggling for open shots. They were able to do a much better job in the second period to make up some ground, but still trailed 23-to-18 at halftime.

The teams struggled to score during much of the second half, but Hyannis went on a good run and were able to outpace and pull away from the Lady Storm.

With a final score of 51-to-36, the Lady Wildcats took the victory and ended the tournament for Creek Valley. Junior Elizabeth Whiting led the scoring with 10 points in the loss.

The Lady Storm end December with an 0-and-9 record, and next play again on January 7 when Sandhills Valley's boy's and girl's teams travel to take on the Storm.
