Crack Seal Bid OK'd

The Sidney City Council on March 8 approved a crack seal contract with Hein Construction of Fairbury, Neb.

In his presentation to the city council, Street Superintendent Hank Radtke said two companies submitted bids; Hein at .27 per linear foot and Bader's Highway & Street at .40 per linear foot.

The council had already approved $75,000 for crack sealing.

Hein Construction was awarded the contract as low bid.

The council also approved a proposal by John Phillips for purchase of new light bulbs for downtown businesses. The light bulbs are those that decorate businesses downtown. Phillips asked to purchase 7,000 bulbs at a price of .79 cents per bulb. He said each business is contributing toward the project. At .79 cents per bulb, the project will cost $5,530.

The proposal has been approved by the Historical Preservation Board.

The council approved the proposal 5-0.

The council also approved the appointment of Mark Mazour to the Economic Development Advisory Review Committee. Mazour has been a member of the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce Board, and the Economic Development Committee, and served on The Foundation of Cheyenne County.

The council approved seeking bids for water line in the Sky Road neighborhood. The project will be funded by American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) dollars. The waterline will consist of 600 feet of pipe, one meter and a pressure reducing valve.

“If that (booster pump) goes out, they're out of water,” Water/Sewer Superintendent Rob Kuhns said.

The council also approved an ordinance exemption allowing Mike Baker to park a truck-trailer off-street at his home.
