Robert J. Lindsey

Robert J. Lindsey, age 83, of Sidney, NE passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 of natural causes. A celebration of Robert’s life with take place at the Evangelical Free Church in Sidney, NE at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 9, 2022 with Pastor Kyle Larson officiating with a continuation of services at Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday, April 8 from 4-8:00 P.M. Family will be present from 6-8:00 P.M. Robert was born October 3rd, 1938, in Sidney, Nebraska to Jim Farley Lindsey and Helen Mae (Frerichs) Lindsey. He was a lifetime resident of Sidney graduating high school in 1956 and attended the Evangelical Free Church.

He was a member of the Nebraska National Guard Bravo Battery 1st/168th Field Artillery serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was married to Charlotte Louise Marie Macht on November 26th, 1961, later to be widowed after almost 30 years of marriage. He never remarried stating that she was the love of his life and could not be replaced.

He began work in the oil field as a roustabout. He also worked as a mechanic at the Ford garage. Later he worked for a gas company, suffering a heart attack and having to relearn to walk and talk at age 32. Robert recovered and went on to work for Egging Cab Company for the remainder of his career retiring at the age of 71 and briefly working at the Cabela’s Warehouse for a short period of time during work shortages at Eggings. He also maintained oil wells as an additional job during that time.

Robert had excellent work ethic and provided for his family to the best of his ability. He was an honorable man who never knew a stranger. He was known for helping others without expecting anything in return. He enjoyed going to church and was an avid reader. Robert also enjoyed playing pitch with his lunch buddies at work and other games with the family when time allowed. Robert was very helpful to his mother after his father’s passing helping wherever needed.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Louise Marie (Macht) Lindsey; parents, Jim and Helen Lindsey; in-laws, George and Barbara Macht; sister, Janet (Lindsey) and husband Dick Jones; brother, John Lindsey; brother-in-law, Jim Macht and great-granddaughter, Allison Esparza.

Robert is survived by daughters: Cynthia Marie (Lindsey) and husband, Gus McGee; Penny Louise (Lindsey) and husband, Henry Gutierrez; sons: Jeffrey Jim Lindsey and Timothy Lee Lindsey and wife, Heather; sister, Linda Kay (Lindsey) Wooldridge and her husband Bob; sister- in-law, Linda Lou (Holz) Lindsey. Robert is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
