DAR Visits Veteran History Center

Daughters of the American Revolution Regent Rebecca Spiller, and members of the Fort Sidney Chapter hosted State Regent Candace Cain at a recent meeting held at the Veteran History Center in Sidney.

Larry Nelson, retired U.S. Army Colonel, shared his work in recording hundreds of veterans stories for the Library of Congress and featured his grant collection of military items displayed in the Center. Ms.Cain shared her project “Women of 1870-1870s Forts” with the chapter and discussed the history that Fort Sidney had on the movement across the country from East to West.

Ms.Cain and the State History, Linda Mins, were treated to a tour of Boot Hill, Fort Sidney the Pony Express exhibit, and many of our historical buildings and markers depicting early history of this area.

Avery Lawson of Sidney was recognized as the Nebraska state 10th grade winner of the American History Essay contest. The title of the essay, “Patriots of the American Revolution,” required research and writing skills with emphasis on the on the Patriot's contribution to the Revolutionary War.
