Zephyrs' Big Inning Too Much For Sidney

Sidney's American Legion Post 17 teams traveled up to Scottsbluff last Wednesday night, and the Westco Zephyr team used a big inning to pull away from the Sidney boys for an 11-to-3 victory.

Sidney started the game with Landon Riddle and Reid Fiscus both going down to strikeouts, but Zech Roggasch was able to drill a single past second base to get on board. Roggasch was caught stealing second base to end the inning. Blaine Russell started on the mound for Sidney and ran into trouble early, surrendering a single to the first batter then a walk to the second batter. After stealing second, the runner was able to score on an error, giving the Westco team an early 1-to-0 lead.

Sidney went three up and three down in the second inning, and Westco stranded a pair of runners in the bottom of the frame.

Westco was able to plate two more runs in the bottom of the third to open a 3-to-0 lead, but Sidney was able to scratch out three runs in the top of the fourth on singles by Fiscus and Conner Hurt and a walk and an error, tying the game at 3-to-3.

But the bottom of the fourth had the Westco offense break out, leading off the inning with a triple, then three singles and two doubles powered a six run inning for the Zephyrs, and the Sidney boys would not challenge for the rest of the contest.

Westco added another two runs in the bottom of the fifth to finish off the Sidney boys 11-to-3.

Russell went 4 innings for the Sidney squad, giving up 11 runs on 14 hits and three walks in the loss. Hunter Garcia got the win for Westco, giving up three runs and scattering three hits and three runs while notching nine strikeouts in the victory.
