Storm Boys Drop Opener To Hyannis

Last year, the Creek Valley Storm Boys Basketball team opened their season at home against Hyannis, and dropped the contest 69-to-13, which was the first of many losses in a difficult 2-and-21 season for the Storm. This year, Creek Valley traveled to Hyannis for the season opener, and although they didn't get a win, the 74-to-33 result was a lot closer than last year's contest.

Hyannis was a powerhouse team last year, ending the season with a 22-and-2 record until getting bounced from the playoffs by Parkview Christian. This year they look to be strong again, and they showed some of their offensive firepower against Creek Valley last Thursday night. The Longhorns started hot and continued to score throughout the contest, putting away the visiting Storm by halftime and cruising to an easy win.

However, even in defeat there were some bright spots for the Storm, and this looks to be a team that will take home some wins with their athletic young players and dangerous 6'-4” senior Seth Wilber.

Wilber was a force against the Longhorns, knocking down 23 points with nine rebounds and two blocked shots in the loss.

Freshman Zander Polk, Mason Timm and Trevor Brown played hard and with good speed and athleticism. As they play more together, they should be able to open up scoring opportunities and get a better sense of court coverage on defense. Senior Hunter Martinez brings experience and a steady shooting hand to the mix, and was good for 8 points in the loss to the Longhorns.

With their good speed and ability to move the ball, coupled with big man Seth Wilber scoring inside and grabbing defensive rebounds, look for the Storm to start winning some games and building some momentum. They're going to have to battle through some tough teams like Bayard and Potter-Dix prior to the winter break before they get to teams they can beat like Minatare early in the January schedule.

Creek Valley was scheduled to host Arthur County on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
