Potter-Dix Girls Head To Subdistricts

Potter-Dix's Lady Coyote Girls Basketball team, noted for playing tough defense but lacking in offense, closed their regular season out with a win against Creek Valley, then losses against Arthur County and Hyannis. The Potter-Dix team earned the number 2 seed in the D2-11 Subdistrict, and were scheduled to play the 0-and-18 number 3 seed Banner County Lady Wildcats on Tuesday.

Potter-Dix played host to Creek Valley on Tuesday, February 7, and the one-win Lady Storm fell behind early and had no answers against the tough Lady Coyote defense. Potter-Dix was able to break through the Creek Valley schemes and score, and pulled away from the Lady Storm. The Potter-Dix girls cruised through the second half and took away the 62-to-46 victory.

The Lady Coyotes did not fare as well in their next two games, first hosting the Lady Wolves of Arthur County in Potter Friday night. Again, the Lady Coyote defense did well to slow the Arthur County offense, but had trouble scoring to open the game. After going down 11-to-3 at the end of the first period, the Potter-Dix squad had a much better second quarter on offense, going into the halftime break down 19-to-14. The second half was a battle, with Potter-Dix matching the Arthur County scoring, while their defense did well to stop any extended runs by the visitors. But the first quarter deficit was too much to overcome, and although Potter-Dix outscored Arthur County 25-to-24 in the second half, they still fell by a final score of 43-to-39.

On Saturday the girls traveled to Hyannis for their final regular season game, and the two evenly-matched teams battled the whole way through the game. But Potter-Dix was unable to break through in the fourth quarter, and Hyannis was able to steal away a three point victory, 40-to-37. Next, the Lady Coyotes will face the 0-and-18 Banner County Lady Wildcats in the first round of the Subdistrict tournament on Tuesday in Potter. If they win, the Lady Coyotes match up against Leyton on Thursday.
