Roggasch, Hanes Qualify For State

Sidney Red Raider Boys Wrestling team traveled to Ogallala Friday and Saturday for the District Championships, and two of the six Raider wrestlers in the competition qualified for the State Tournament.

Sidney was well-represented in Ogallala, with Colby Langley competing at 132 lbs., Zech Roggasch at 160 lbs., Matthew Cabbage at 170 lbs, Patrick McCartney at 182 lbs., Jeremiah Roggasch at 195 lbs, and Landon Hanes at 285 lbs.

At the end of the day, Landon Hanes, who has compiled a 40-and-7 record this season, placed second at 285 lbs., defeated by Fall in the 1st place match by Daulton Kuehn of Minden. He qualifies for the State Tournament.

Zech Roggasch, the standout freshman with a 39-and-7 record, won by decision over Jason Hernandez of Lexington to take third place at 160 lbs. He qualifies for the State Tournament.

Colby Langley won two of his four matches at 132 lbs., but did not qualify for the State Tournament.

Matthew Cabbage also won two of his four matches at 170 lbs. to push his record to 19-and-17, but did not qualify for the State Tournament. Patrick McCartney moved his record to 33-and-13 at 182 lbs. By winning two of his four matches, but also did not qualify for the State Tournament. Jeremiah Roggasch lost two matches to give him a 15-and-15 season record, and did not qualify for the State Tournament.

The two Raider wrestlers will join Saphira Whitley and Jaydy Cottam of the Lady Raiders Wrestling team at the State Tournament that runs Thursday through Saturday of this week.
