Potter-Dix Takes D2-11 Subdistrict Crown; Plays Falls City Sacred Heart In District Final

Potter-Dix's Coyote Boys Basketball team finished their strong season with a loss to Chadron, but had no problem regrouping and breezing through the Subdistricts and coming away with the D2-11 crown. The Coyotes first faced Creek Valley in their first game of the tournament on February 21, and had no problem putting away the Storm, who had struggled for success all season. After opening the game with a strong offensive performance that had them up 23-to-12 at the end of the first period, the Coyotes poured it on in the second period with another 23 points, opening a 46-to-19 advantage at the half. The Coyotes cruised through the second half, and took away a 75-to-33 victory, advancing them to the Finals against Garden County, and ending Creek Valley's season.

On February 23, the Coyotes matched up against the Eagles in the finals, and this game featured more defense then their previous contest. Nevertheless, the Coyotes were able to open a 11-to-6 lead at the end of the first period and then take a 25-to-14 advantage into the halftime break. A strong fourth quarter performance by the Eagles made no difference in the final outcome, as the Coyote lead was too much to overcome, and the Potter-Dix boys again secured a Subdistrict crown by the final score of 55-to-36. Senior Luke Kasten led the scoring for Potter-Dix with 12 points and was busy under the boards with 19 total rebounds.

After a delay due to the snowy weather last week, Potter-Dix matched up on Tuesday for a District Final game against the 16-and-8 Falls City Sacred Heart Irish at Kearney Catholic High School. Details of the game will be published in next week's Sun-Telegraph and Western Nebraska Observer.
