Lady Raider Track & Field Tops at Western Conference

Boys Finish Runners-Up to Scottsbluff

Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field teams made the trip up to Mitchell High School on Friday, April 28 to compete at the Western Conference Track & Field Meet. The Sidney girls had an excellent showing with a 125 point overall score, beating out runner-up Chadron by 31 points. The Scottsbluff girls took third place, followed by Mitchell in fourth place, Gering in fifth place and Alliance in sixth. The boys' squad placed second, with 123 points, behind first-place Scottsbluff with 162. Chadron placed third, followed by Gering in fourth, Alliance in fifth and Mitchell in sixth.

Outstanding individual performances highlighted both the girls and boys teams' efforts, and Sidney junior Karsyn Leeling set a Western Conference record in Triple Jump with a distance of 35' 9.5", beating the old mark of 35' set in 1999 by Chadron's Mariah Clark. Leeling also won the Long Jump with a distance of 17' 3.25", the High Jump, clearing 5' 3", and was part of the first place 4X100 Meter Relay team. Junior Payton Schrotberger won the 200 Meters with a time of 27.53, a personal best, and placed second in the 100 Meters. She was also part of the winning 4X100 Meter Relay team and the second-place 4X400 Meter Relay team. Junior Talissa Tanquary placed second in the 400 Meters, third in the 800 Meters and was part of the second-place 4X400 Meter Relay team. Chloe Ahrens won the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 47.79, and placed second in the 100 Meter Hurdles, a race with a controversial false start that was not called by officials. Ahrens was also part of the winning 4X100 Meter Relay team and second-place 4X400 Meter Relay team.

Other outstanding performances for the girls included sophomore Jordan DeNovellis placing sixth in the 100 Meters, fifth in the Discus, and tenth in Triple Jump, senior Gabrielle Fortner placing fourth in the 400 Meters and was part of the winning 4X100 Meter Relay team and second-place 4X400 Meter Relay team. Sophomore Carli Black placed fourth in the 100 Meter Hurdles, fifth in the 300 Meter Hurdles and fifth in Triple Jump.

Senior Rheo Dykstra placed fourth in the 3200 Meters.

For the boys, junior Isak Doty continued his outstanding performances in the sprinting events, winning the 100 Meters with a time of 11:08, winning the 200 Meters with a time of 22.71 and winning the 400 Meters with a time of 52.25. Doty was also part of the second-place 4X100 Meter Relay team. The Sidney boys did well in the jumps, with senior Jacob Dowse winning the High Jump clearing 6' 1" and sophomore Landon Riddle winning the Long Jump with a distance of 20' 5.25", placed sixth in the 100 and 200 Meters, and was part of the second-place 4X100 Meter Relay team. Other outstanding performances included freshman Lance Holly placing third in the 200 Meters, fourth in the 100 Meters and was part of the second-place 4X100 Meter Relay Team. Sophomore Noah Canas placed second in the 800 Meters and placed fourth in the 800 Meters. Senior Koleman Kaiser placed fifth in both the 110 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles, while junior McGuire Rolls placed sixth in Shot Put and junior Matthew Danch placed fifth in Discus. Junior Luke Uhlir placed fourth in Pole Vault.

The Red Raiders were next scheduled to compete at the Best in the West Meet at Scottsbluff on May 2.
