Warrior Boys Take Third At MAC High School Meet

Leyton's Warrior Track and Field teams hosted the MAC High School Meet on Saturday, and with the weather cooperating nicely, the Warrior boys' team ended the day with 116 points and a third-place finish out of seven teams, and the Lady Warriors' team earned 53 points, tied for fifth place out of eight teams. For the girls, Bayard took top honors followed by runner-up South Platte and third place Potter-Dix. For the boys, Garden County took the top spot, followed by runner-up Bayard.

Both boys and girls teams had impressive individual performances to earn their team points. For the boys, freshman Alec Watchorn had an outstanding day, winning the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 17.35, the High Jump clearing 5' 6", and was part of the winning 4X400 Meter Relay team. Watchorn also placed second in the 300 Meter Hurdles. Sophomore Zachary Anderson was outstanding in the throwing events, winning the Shot Put with a throw of 41' 3.25" and the Discus with a throw of 129' 9", a personal best. Senior Justin Ernest won the 400 Meters with a time of 53.09, and was part of the winning 4X100 and 4X400 Meter Relay teams. Senior Cort Rummel had a second-place finish with a personal best time of 11.61 in the 100 Meters and was part of the winning 4X100 and 4X400 Meter Relay teams. Senior Chance Carter placed fourth in the 400 Meters, and was part of the winning 4X100 and 4X400 Meter Relay teams. Senior Dawson Juelfs placed second in Pole Vault, and junior Kaleb Borges placed fourth in the 110 Meter Hurdles and 300 Meter Hurdles, fourth in Triple Jump, and was part of the first-place 4X100 Meter Relay team. Senior Jakob Kruse placed sixth in Discus and eighth in Shot Put. Senior Holden Syverson placed fourth in the 1600 Meters and sophomore Isaac Lipska placed sixth in Long Jump.

For the girls, sophomore Zaili Benish continued her strong season, winning the 100 Meter Hurdles with a personal-best time of 16.89, and winning the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 50.50. Benish also placed second in the 100 Meters with a personal-best time of 13.23, and was part of the second-place 4X100 Meter Relay team. Junior Claire Watchorn placed second in the 200 Meters and second in Discus with a personal-best throw of 101' 8". She was also part of the second-place 4X100 Meter Relay team. Freshman Macey Roelle placed sixth in Triple Jump, and sophomore Sydney Fortune placed eighth in Discus and 13th in Shot Put.

The Leyton teams were scheduled to travel to the Best in the West Classic Meet in Scottsbluff on Tuesday, and then host the Leyton High School Invite on Friday, May 5.
