Janis was born October 5, 1947 in Lebanon, OR to Jack and Helen Harmon. She grew up always being the "new kid" as they moved several times throughout her childhood. She attended Buchser High School in Santa Clara, CA. Growing up she was always socializing, loved going to the beach, was part of the track team, and making friends came easy. After graduating high school, she attended College of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA where she was voted "Cutest" and was most interested in her cheerleading gig.
After graduating she moved to San Mateo, CA where she was married to the late Mike Gallagher and had two children, Chris and Kelly. She also later remarried to Michael Feinstein and moved to Aurora, CO. To her children she instilled the importance of working hard, being independent, and showing kindness to everyone. Janis had many talents which allowed for many job opportunities including secretarial work, catering, cosmetology management, and administrative work. She and Michael moved to Gurley, NE in 2018 to be closer to family, which is where she finished her career as a support staff at a local dentist office. Janis did not do well sitting still so she picked up a hobby making mustards and jellies and selling them at local farmer's markets and craft fairs, as well as volunteer work at local schools and her church.
In February 2024 Janis was diagnosed with Pancreatic/Duodenal cancer. She was Christian and carried a strong belief in the Holy Spirit, she often held her hands in the air saying, "I know where I'm goin'!" You see, what happened is she got this call with an offer she couldn't refuse. It is the job of a lifetime, the retirement package is out of this world! One of the perks is comfort, which was enough for her to accept. Not only can she wear her robe (because let's face it, Janis likes to be comfy), but she also gets to help others who have suffered just like she did. The only reason she was fortunate enough to receive this offer is because of her work experience. When you first start a job there are many failures and you have to ask for forgiveness often, and most of all, you have to have faith that it will all work out. Look what 76 years of experience has gotten her, if we can all be so fortunate. Even though she has accepted this new position we are certain you will still hear her laugh from afar.
Janis is preceded in death by her father Jack Harmon, mother Helen Harmon, and mother-in-law Jo Feinstein.
She is survived by her husband Michael Feinstein; brother J.K. Harmon and his wife Gina of Park City, UT; son Chris Gallagher and his wife Toni of Pagosa Springs, CO; daughter Kelly Reimers and her husband Eric of Dalton, NE; granddaughter Natassia Jarvis of Denver, CO; grandson Mason Reimers of Mitchell, SD; granddaughter Natalie Reimers of Dalton, NE; and many others who she considers family.
