Local boys, girls chosen for all-star basketball games

The annual Panhandle Prep All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff with several local players having been selected to play. The exhibition selects recently graduated seniors from Panhandle high schools. The girls ‘game will open the action at 5:30 p.m. with the boys to follow.

Among the locals selected are Ashley and Maddie Stafford of the Sidney Red Raiders. Ashley will play with the Red Team while twin sister Maddie will be with the opposing Blue Team. Lady Raiders teammate Savanna Rosenbaum will join Maddie on the Blue Team.

Rachel Larson of Scottsbluff and Chauncey Pederson of Kimball will coach the Red Team. Rick Barry of Crawford and Bayard’s Karla Fiscus will guide the Blue squad.

Lane Harvey, the four-year starting point guard with the state runner up Sidney Red Raiders, will join the Red Team in the boys’ game. Harvey will be opposed by the Leyton Warriors leading scorer from last season, Cody McKay. He will be among the nine players chosen to play with the Blue Team.

Minatare coach Kyle Cotton and Barry Swisher of Sioux County will coach Harvey and the rest of the Red Team. Chadron’s Eric Calkins and Nick Broz of Bridgeport will head McKay and the Blue Team.
