Basketball roundup: Lady Coyotes advance

The Potter-Dix girls basketball team kept alive in the playoffs with a win on Tuesday night, while the season ended for both Leyton and Creek Valley.

Potter-Dix 61, Garden County 26

Potter-Dix jumped out to a first quarter lead and rolled to a 51-26 win over Garden County to open the D2-11 subdistrict playoffs on Tuesday night in Gering.

The Lady Coyotes (17-2) went up 18-10 in the first quarter and built a 30-15 halftime advantage. They also outscored the Lady Eagles (2-17) by a 21-11 margin in the second half.

Trinity Langley led a balanced Potter-Dix scoring attack with 12 points, while Alexus Rozelle chipped in with 11 points. Rozelle also had nine rebounds on the night. Audrey Juelfs added nine points and a team-high 12 rebounds in addition to seven steals and six assists.

Potter-Dix advances to face South Platte at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Gering High School in the subdistrict finals. South Platte (4-13) advanced with a 32-21 win over Banner County.

Morrill 53, Leyton 34

Leyton's season ended on Tuesday night with a 53-34 defeat against Morrill in the D1-12 subdistrict playoffs in Bridgeport.

The Lady Lions (14-7) jumped out to a 17-10 advantage and held a 26-17 lead over the Lady Warriors (11-9) at halftime. Morrill also outscored Leyton 27-17 in the second half.

Statistics were not available at press time.

The loss ends Leyton's season, while Morrill advances to face Dundy County-Stratton on Thursday.

DC-Stratton 70, Creek Valley 28

Creek Valley's season came to a close on Tuesday with a 70-28 loss to Dundy County-Stratton in the D1-12 subdistrict playoffs in Bridgeport.

The Lady Tigers (20-1) jumped out to a 25-8 first quarter lead and built a 41-12 halftime advantage. They outscored the Storm (12-9) by a 29-16 clip in the second half.

Jessie Straber led the Storm offensively with 15 points and was the only player on the team to reach double figure scoring.

Payje Misegadis led the team with 10 rebounds, while Joey Straber added five rebounds and four assists. Jessie Straber also led the team with six steals.

The loss ends Creek Valley's season, while Dundy County-Stratton advances to face Morrill on Thursday night in Bridgeport.
