SHS grapplers sweep triangular

OSHKOSH — Tanner Wernsman and Nathaniel Vortuba were double-winners on the mats Thursday night as Sidney High School’s wrestling team swept a triangular match against both Hershey and host Garden County.

Wernsman opened the Red Raiders’ 65-12 win over the host Bulldogs by picking up a quick pin at 160 pounds, and also won by a first-period stick in his bout against Hershey’s Wyatt McConnell.

Picking up pins against Garden County were Tucker Wintholz (heavyweight) and Lane Riley (145).

Vortuba (138) won by technical fall, and the remainder of SHS’s points came via forfeits.

In the nightcap, Sidney won 54-27 against Hershey, and got off to a 36-0 start with forfeit wins to Lukia Hilger (152), before Wernsman, Ryan Wooley (170), Kelby Christian (182) and Tanner Wintholz (195) all picked up pins. Scott Kelsey (220) wrapped up the opening rally with a forfeit.

Will Willboldt (120) and Michael Muggli (132) managed forfeit wins, and Vortuba finished things off with a pin.

Sidney will host its own Invitational Saturday at Cabela’s Athletic Facility, beginning at 9 a.m.
